You’d think an earthquake is something that can only happen down on our planet, but the Moon has its own quakes – and yes, they’re called moonquakes. There are four types of moonquakes that are strong enough to be detected from a large distance: deep moonquakes occur more than 430 miles below the surface. Then there are meteoroid impacts and thermal quakes occur when the frigid lunar crust expands. And there are also shallow moonquakes. How dangerous are they?
