Why Berlin’s 15 Year-Old Airport has never had a Flight

If you’re a regular reader of Boarding Area, you probably saw a lot of bloggers write in the past week or so that, at long last, Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) finally has an opening date: October 31, 2020. This after a nearly nine-year delay, and with a budget that ballooned to over three times what was originally planned.

How and why a modern, $8.5 billion dollar airport took so long to finally open (if it actually opens – there are still months between now and then) is a story of bad planning, bad work, bad luck, and a whole lot more badness.
